Dragons face another difficult away trip this year as they visit the south of France for a clash with Jake White's high-flying Montpellier side, who are currently second in the Top 14.
Head coach Jones officially takes the reins of Dragons for the first time after director of rugby Lyn Jones' departure was confirmed earlier this week, but the former is not thinking about his job title at the minute.
"I'm totally open-minded to be honest. The big thing for me is the next four weeks," Jones told the BBC.
"I've really got to focus on that, make sure we get as much out of this season as we can and hopefully we get to a final, which would be fabulous."
Dragons could have gone into the game without inspirational forward Taulupe Faletau after he suffered a facial injury in the loss to Cardiff Blues in the Guinness PRO12 last weekend.
The Wales international gave Jones a boost though when he was declared fit to face Montpellier and his coach backed the British and Irish Lion in his battle against Montpellier's South Africa number eight Pierre Spies.
"I know which number eight I prefer to have playing for us and that's Taulupe Faletau," added Jones.
White's side brings a strong South African flavour to the French Top 14 and they come into this weekend's clash on the back of seven consecutive league victories.
Dragons, on the other hand, are on a run of eight consecutive Guinness PRO12 defeats, with their most recent victory coming in the Challenge Cup quarter-final against Gloucester a fortnight ago.
Jones names an unchanged XV to the side that lost by 20 points in Cardiff last weekend but will be hoping the change of competition brings about a change in outcome from the players.
White makes five changes to his starting XV for the game at Altrad Stadium with Robert Ebersohn replacing Anthony Tuitavake at outside centreand Demetri Catrakilis and Benoit Paillaugue both come in for a new pairing at nine and ten.
