It could have been an all RaboDirect PRO12 affair had Leinster found a way past Toulon earlier this month in their quart-final clash.
Leinster were unable to advance as the French giants won 29-14, but Gibbes believes their defeat could prove to be Munster's gain this weekend.
"I think they can definitely do it," Gibbes told the Irish Independent. "I hope the French don't read this but I think Munster will have watched what we did and the mistakes we made and they will have a good insight into what they need to do.
"I think Toulon played pretty well and they'll be pretty happy with themselves - and I don't think they will change too much. Munster - they can get that bone between their teeth.
"The key will be mistakes. We had very little margin of error to beat them and we made too many mistakes.
"For Munster that will be the challenge - to minimise the errors. They will be well up for it physically, that won't be a problem. But how they use their platform and the amount of errors they make is vital."
