The Warriors full-back managed just seven RaboDirect PRO12 appearances last season, slipping behind Peter Murchie in the pecking order as the club pushed towards their first ever final in the competition.
However, after Vern Cotter took the reins as Scotland head coach he handed Hogg the No.15 shirt - and the Warriors man responded with a try-scoring display as they beat USA 24-6.
Edinburgh wing Tim Visser also got on the scoresheet last weekend, as the new boss made quite an impression on Hogg.
"Vern has come in with lots of new ideas - and we are all liking those ideas," Hogg told the Daily Record. "A spade is a spade to him and that is exactly what we all want to hear.
"If he has something to tell you, he will do just that - so we know where we stand.
"We got great front-foot ball against the Americans. We know Canada will be intent in shifting the ball around much more. Like the USA, they will be massively physical, so we need to be strong in contact again."
Canada are next for Cotter's Scotland before they visit Argentina and South Africa, all before the end of the month - and Hogg has no complaints about the busy schedule.
"It can't get much better than this - travelling the world and playing for your country, although I admit that I did find it hard in the Texas heat with my pale skin," he added.
"But just being involved here is great and training this week has been pretty good. The backs are looking pretty sharp, with the set plays going well along with a couple of new moves."
