Strauss planning big season with Glasgow Warriors

Strauss, 27, made the move from South Africa to Glasgow in 2012 and will be eligible to play for Scotland on September 19, 2015 - four days before their opening World Cup match.

The back-row has been a formidable force for Gregor Townsend over the last two years, starting in 31 domestic games including last season's final.

And though a year is a long time in any sport, Strauss insists he can keep the momentum all the way through to next September with the Warriors.

"If I was to be selected [for Scotland] it would be very important to have a good season, but everyone wants to have that anyway," Strauss told the Herald.

"For now, my focus is on staying healthy because it's going to be a long season, so organising things and looking after myself is important. I want to put in consistent performances for Glasgow."

The Warriors narrowly lost their pre-season opener to Harlequins by 24-23, and Strauss, who was named captain for the game, says his side have no time to waste in preparing for their GUINNESS PRO12 return against Leinster.

"Whoever we played in the first game it would be important to get momentum going in the pre-season games," added Strauss.

"Normally, you have about four games to get the ball rolling, but we only have two this year so we have to hit the ground running and get everything sorted as quickly as possible."
