The 25-year-old put in a stellar performance as Tandy's men continued their unbeaten start to the season with a record-breaking victory over the Scots to climb to the top of the league table.
Tipuric, who was part of the British & Irish Lions tour of Australia last summer, had been sidelined for four months with a shoulder injury and was forced to undergo surgery.
But his return could not have come at a better time for the Ospreys as they go in search of their fifth PRO12 championship and Tandy, a former openside flanker himself, believes that Tipuric will be a vital part of their title challenge.
"He's a Lion and it's always great to have those guys back," he told the South Wales Evening Post.
"He's a true Osprey who's desperate to wear the shirt and make our team better, so it's great to have someone like him coming back into the group.
"He hadn't played any rugby for months but he does the simple things well, with his tackle-contest work, for instance. He's just into everything with his speed to the breakdowns and he popped up in a number of movements to keep the game flowing against Edinburgh."
