Gilchrist is coming back from an ankle injury and climbed off the bench at the start of the second half at Murrayfield to help inspire his side back from a 20-10 deficit to draw 20-20.
And Solomons was full of praise for the influence wielded by the eight-times capped lock as tries from Tim Visser and Phil Burleigh saw his side snatch a draw against their Welsh opposition.
"Gilcho made a big difference," said Solomons. "He is just going to get better and better and will make a huge difference to our line-out.
"In the end we were unlucky not to come away with a win. The first half was difficult because we had no territory and we lost a number of line-outs and gave away a lot of penalties.
"For a quarter of the game we played with 14 men which doesn't help. As the game went on we got better and better and were unlucky not to win."
