The 24-year-old prop has collected nine caps for Ireland in his career so far, but missed Leinster's 37-23 GUINNESS PRO12 win over Cardiff Blues last week with a calf injury sustained against Connacht Rugby.
He is keen to return to action soon and with Healy out for up to five months after tearing his hamstring and the World Cup under a year away, Ireland's No.1 shirt is the target.
But ahead of Leinster's inter-provincial derby with Munster on Saturday, he wants to focus on getting appearances for the boys in blue under his belt first.
"For Ireland, I'm not looking that far ahead, because there are two guys in Munster, a guy in Connacht and Ulster ready to take your spot," he told RTÉ Sport.
"I'm just going to have to play my own game, not do anything too out of the ordinary because you don't want to make mistakes.
"And with the Irish set-up, the managerial set-up, it's based on performance not reputation.
"So for me it just a question of getting games for Leinster under my belt and putting my hand up for selection."
As many as 40,000 fans will pack into the Aviva Stadium on Saturday night, a fixture Leinster have won on each occasion since 2010.
And McGrath believes Munster will be in Dublin to prove a point this time around, with a raucous crowd cheering them on.
"Most of the Munster lads, the Irish guys play in the Aviva the whole time, so it's a comfortable surrounding for them," he added.
"And it's probably going to be split 50-50 supporters-wise, so the venue doesn't really make a difference. It's going to be down to the fine margins.
"We do need to tidy up a few things from the weekend ourselves. Concentration-wise, we let Cardiff in for two soft tries, and I don't think you can afford to not concentrate for 80 minutes against Munster."
