The Ospreys scrum-half made 15 appearances in the domestic league last year but is still awaiting his first this time around, with both Webb and then Martin Roberts getting the nod in the No.9 shirt.
The 22-year-old Habberfield was an unused substitute last time out in the PRO12 as the Ospreys claimed their seventh win on the spin, against Connacht.
But with Webb in line to start for Wales this weekend, and a busy series of autumn internationals ahead, Habberfield may get his chance.
And the scrum-half admits he is desperate to make the most of his opportunity.
"Rhys thoroughly deserves his place in the Wales squad. He would have been there sooner had it not been for a run of injuries, because he is a quality player. It's good for me to have him around, to learn from him," he said.
"We went to the same school, so I knew him when I was younger and this is a big opportunity for me to show what I have learned.
"We've been going well in the league, but the next few games are a big part of the season for us because we want to keep our momentum going with a few points, so we can pick up where we left off in the league.
"It's a lot to live up to because of how well things have gone so far, but that's Ospreys, we have quality right through and a desire to win.
"I personally haven't thought too much about winning things this year. It's important to take each game as it comes. I see it as a big few weeks. If I can play regularly, then it's a massive opportunity for me, I'm really excited and I can't wait to get going."
