Russell was one of seven Warriors to start the clash with England at Twickenham on Saturday, as Scotland gave the hosts a scare before falling to a 25-13 defeat.
Vern Cotter's troops led 13-10 at half time - including a try for Mark Bennett - but England edged ahead in the second half.
Among the backs Russell was joined by teammates Stuart Hogg, Tommy Seymour and Bennett, who have helped the Warriors establish a four-point lead at the top of the GUINNESS PRO12 with 17 rounds gone.
Glasgow however must cope without the services of Alex Dunbar, with the centre set for a long lay-off after tearing his ACL in a Scotland camp last Thursday.
Nevertheless Russell is eyeing a bright future with the weapons he has at his disposal.
"Myself, Mark and Alex have played quite a few games now and off the field we get on well as we do on the field," Russell told the Daily Record.
"If you're going out you send a text and see who fancies going. We hang around together quite a bit.
"The stronger the relationship off the pitch then it comes on to the field, you understand each other, you are closer to each other.
"The relationship we have off and on the pitch is good. That definitely does help as a 10, 12 and 13 in defence and attack, you have an idea of what each other is going to do before they actually do it.
"You feed off them without having to call anything or do anything. But there's no real competition - it's just some banter now and then."
