Ospreys man Baldwin is in prime position after a fine season in the GUINNESS PRO12 which saw him turn out 17 times and help his side to third place in the table.
It was a more disjointed season for Owens who spent four months recovering from a neck injury but made eight appearances for Scarlets after his return and was named on the bench for Wales' clash with Italy.
And McBryde admits that the GUINNESS PRO12 duo are right in the mix as Warren Gatland ponders his options at hooker.
"Richard wasn't happy with the fact he didn't finish the Six Nations as the number one hooker," revealed McBryde.
"Injuries and form played a part in that. Certainly, Scott had a strong Six Nations. And, on the basis of his performance against Italy and ever since that, Ken has really hit the ground running after his rehab from a neck injury.
"It is good competitiveness and it sends out a strong message, stronger than any coach can put out, the form of other players vying for the position."
