Yet Pivac senses a chance to make immediate amends this term, with a trip to Scotstoun this weekend the perfect chance to lay down an early marker.
And after blooding a number of youngsters in Saturday's final warm-up game against Bedford Blues, a game the Scarlets lost 27-13, Pivac is confident his troops have what it takes to get off to a winning start.
"We're going there to win, hence the amount of guys who have trained separately this week and didn't partake (against Bedford)," said Pivac.
"That's with a view of (this weekend), they've had a couple of runs under their belts already. With the Rugby World Cup the depth of our squad will be important. We needed to make sure the core of the squad were good to go.
"We got what we wanted out of it. It was an opportunity, with no LV= Cup this year, to have a look at the next tier of players. If we get injuries throughout the year we may have to call on some of them, we got a handle on where they're at which was important.
"We didn't pick up any injuries from the squad for Glasgow as we'd rested most of them."
