A win over the Ospreys this weekend could close the gap further and Murchie, who has not played since September after undergoing surgery on his elbow, is delighted to be back involved.
"When you haven't played for a while it is frustrating but it is good to be back on the pitch, I have had a few games for Glasgow Hawks and have been training hard, so I hope I can contribute to the team effort," he said.
"There has been a lot of time to work on things week by week - I hope it will show."
After some impressive showings in recent seasons, this has been a trickier one for the Warriors, and with a number of players set to be missing during the Six Nations, the pressure is on to perform.
But head coach Gregor Townsend knows that a winning run would get Glasgow right back into contention for the play-offs.
"We are sitting in eighth place, which obviously isn't ideal, but we have a couple of games in hand and we know that if we go on a winning run then we would be right back in the top four, but we do have some really tough games coming up," Townsend admitted.
