Earlier this month the Warriors bolstered their front-row options further by signing 24-year-old Jarrod Firth on a two-and-a-half-year deal from ITM Cup side Counties Manukau in New Zealand.
And Townsend believes he will soon be the envy of the GUINNESS PRO12 with the options he has at his disposal up top.
"It's great news that both Alex and Sila will be staying with us next season," Townsend told the club's official website.
"Alex has been working hard on his set-piece game to build on his outstanding ability in general play.
"He's had international recognition and is currently training with the Scotland squad and we believe he will continue to develop in our environment.
"Sila integrated so quickly after the Rugby World Cup it was if he'd been a Warrior for the past ten years.
"His work rate in training and in games is excellent, and he has been really solid at scrum time.
"Sila has played regularly for us this season and there is a lot more to come from him. I'm sure that he'll be determined to improve further over the next 18 months.
"There is already good competition at tighthead and with Jarrod [Firth] coming in too it means we'll have a strong group for next season."
