Martyn Williams is a legendary figure in British and Irish rugby and the most-capped Welsh player in the history of the Five and Six Nations.

The veteran openside flanker could reach 100 international caps by the close of the year, having already made 91 appearances by the start of 2010.

Martyn has been a Cardiff Blues player since the collapse of the Celtic Warriors and had made 49 Magners League starts by the end of 2009.

The former Pontypridd star made his Wales debut back in 1996 and had previously played for Wales Schools, U19, Students and ‘A’.

He has appeared at three World Cups and on three successive British & Irish Lions tours.

Martyn won Test honours with the Lions in both 2005 and 2009, making his first start in the Lions’ third and final encounter with the Springboks on their recent tour of South Africa.

A Grand Slam winner in both 2005 and 2008, Martyn was named RBS Player of the Tournament during the first of those triumphs.

Martyn retired from international rugby after Wales’ premature exit from the 2007 World Cup but reconsidered his decision and is still a regular starter for Warren Gatland’s team.
