The Blues are coming off back-to-back victories in Europe but were unable to record a win in their last five PRO12 matches.
They make seven changes to the side that claimed a bonus-point victory against Rovigo last weekend, including handing a debut to Argentine international wing Lucas Amorosino.
Elsewhere, an all-new front-row is comprised of Sam Hobbs, Adam Jones and skipper Matthew Rees.
Centre Garyn Smith could also become a fully-fledged Cardiff Blue after being named among the replacements.
And Hammett says their European exploits can hand them just the boost they need ahead of the GUINNESS PRO12's return.
"Munster are a challenging side who have a strong pick-and-go game, run hard and direct and are strong technically. We've got to be right on the money from the start because we will be tested all over the field," said Hammett.
"We go into the Munster fixture on the back of two bonus-point victories in Europe, but we are certainly not getting carried away with those wins.
"Playing in Europe allowed us to build confidence, momentum and work on our structures and systems. Our challenge is to transfer that into the PRO12 against a powerhouse side in Munster."
In contrast to the Blues' European form, their only victory in the GUINNESS PRO12 so far this campaign came in Round 1 at Zebre.
They have played three games against Irish provinces this season and have yet to win, but did draw 24-24 at Connacht in October.
Munster's only defeat in their last seven fixtures in all tournaments was 14-19 at home to Ospreys in Round 4 of the PRO12. The Munstermen have a perfect played three, won three record on the road this season in all competitions, but were defeated on their most recent visit to Wales, 18-13 at the Scarlets in March.
Anthony Foley makes 11 changes to the Munster outfit that defeated Saracens 14-3 in Europe, with John Ryan returning after recovering from illness to start at loosehead alongside hooker Kevin O'Byrne.
Donncha O'Callaghan also returns to the squad and will captain the side from the second-row alongside Billy Holland, who is promoted from the bench for this weekend's clash.
And Andrew Smith, the only Munster player to have featured in every game this season, says his side are determined to continue their winning streak despite the disruption of international action.
"I guess all the more senior players have to take the responsibility this week, otherwise the intensity would drop right down," the 29-year-old centre said.
"We've got quite a large chunk of players away so that takes out a fair bit of the leadership and it's up to a number of guys to step up to keep standards high.
"It's a big game, Cardiff have won their last few games, and it's going to be tough."
