Edinburgh climbed above Ulster to sixth in the GUINNESS PRO12 table courtesy of their first bonus-point victory of the season last week when they beat Newport Gwent Dragons 32-13.
Ulster meanwhile have lost two of their last three games in all competitions after Les Kiss took the reins, and Solomons is confident his side - which contains four changes from last week's win - can inflict another.
"Last Friday's bonus-point win over Dragons was important for us and we must build on that momentum," he said.
"Ulster at the Kingspan in front of a home crowd will be a tough ask, without a doubt, and we have to make sure that we are at our best.
"This will be a real test for the team, and especially for our strength in depth, bearing in mind our heavy injury toll.
"Though we've beaten Ulster twice this season - at home in the PRO12 and in our pre-season friendly - we know we have to be absolutely at the top of our game on Friday."
Edinburgh have the benefit of a relatively unchanged line-up going into this match, and welcome back Anton Bresler and Dougie Fife to add stability to the second row and backs respectively.
Greig Tonks, who tweaked his hamstring against the Dragons, is replaced at full-back by Jack Cuthbert and Sean Kennedy comes in at scrum-half as Sam Hidalgo-Clyne is out with a hand injury.
Meanwhile Rob Herring will replace Rory Best for Ulster as hooker and captain, and is joined in the front row by Ricky Lutton, who makes his first start of the campaign.
Franco van der Merwe and Roger Wilson return to the side at lock and No.8 respectively, while Ireland international Chris Henry moves off the bench and into the pack.
Luke Marshall is given an opportunity in midfield beside Darren Cave, with Rory Scholes due to start in a back three that also features Andrew Trimble and Peter Nelson.
The Scotsmen have won just once on their travels in the GUINNESS PRO12 this season, but that said the Ulstermen have lost their last three matches against Scottish opponents.
Defeat for Ulster would spell their first season's double at the hands of Edinburgh in seven years, but after showing improvements in last week's defeat to Leinster, Kiss is adamant they are moving in the right direction.
He said: "You do not get anywhere by standing still, we have to challenge ourselves and each other in the group. We understand the challenge against Edinburgh.
"You can perform well against the fourth and below in the PRO12 but when you get above that you just have got to get better and better at facing up to that and coming up with the solutions to it.
"I would say I am getting closer and closer as each week goes by and just getting a sense of how it all runs.
"I'm responsible for a lot and I know that two losses in a row, the mindset around that, is something I've got to manage.
"After the Saracens game and the Leinster game, I do think we have put another layer of solid stuff on top of where we need to go."
