Webb has since started Ospreys' last five games at scrum-half, helping the region to two derby victories over Scarlets.
His form has seen him named as one of three No.9s in Warren Gatland's Six Nations squad - alongside Mike Phillips and Rhodri Williams - and Rees is adamant it is nothing less than the 25-year-old deserves.
"We are thrilled for Rhys," Rees told the South Wales Evening Post. "It's a great reward for his form.
"We have said before how hard he has worked in recovering from another serious injury.
"We are also happy with the way he has taken on board key messages, particularly in relation to the heat-of-the-moment stuff. He is now scanning a lot more during matches.
"He is appreciating where he can be a threat but also how he can put some flow into games. I am delighted for him."
