But with a minute on the clock winger Aisea Natoga went over to complete his hat-trick and Sam Davies held his nerve with the touchline conversion to kick the RaboDirect PRO12 outfit to a 37-36 victory.
And despite admitting that it was far from the perfect display, Griffiths was delighted with his side's response after falling behind as early as the second minute.
"We were delighted with the result but not with some elements of the performance. That is the standard we want to set for these young men," he said.
"Our attack can put any side to the sword and when we did get in the right areas we were able to come back from 36-20 down.
"We never questioned the effort and the character and we were delighted with the response after half- time."
