The result ensured O'Driscoll, who has clashed with Wilkinson at club and international level over the years as well as joining forces for the British & Irish Lions in 2001 and 2005, had played his last game over the channel.
And the former England fly-half is disappointed to see such a revered figure wave goodbye.
"The first time I played against Brian was in the Under-18 schools Five Nations," Wilkinson told ERC. "Even from that first glance you could tell he was going to play at the very highest level.
"I've played against him all my career and he always remains at this very high level. His farewell is a bit sad for the sport."
Toulon's victory lines up a semi-final clash with Leinster's RaboDirect PRO12 rivals Munster, who beat Toulouse at the weekend, and Wilkinson is expecting another tough test for the European champions.
"We saw the game between Munster and Toulouse and that was a very high level contest as well," he added. "We'll have to prepare ourselves for a huge challenge."
