With the experienced Chris Cusiter having departed for Sale Sharks in the summer, an opportunity has presented itself for Pyrgos to make the No.9 jersey his own.
An opening weekend GUINNESS PRO12 victory against champions Leinster proved a good start, with the 25-year-old kicking two conversions in the 22-20 win.
And having played understudy to fellow Scot Cusiter last season, Pyrgos believes he is now equipped with enough experience to flourish in the role.
"I want to be playing as much as possible. I want the big games. I think everyone does," he told the Scotsman.
"With Chris [Cusiter] going, we've lost a real experienced guy with over 50 caps for Scotland, and he's played a lot of games for Glasgow.
"I learned a huge amount from him and a lot of the guys in the squad would have learned things from him so, in that sense, him leaving has left a little bit of a change.
"But it's a good opportunity for me as I'm part of the leadership group here, to become a bit more of a leader and take that role on a bit more."
Pyrgos won't have it all his own way though, with Fijian Niko Matawalu providing head coach Gregor Townsend with some food for thought.
And Pyrgos admits that he will have his hands full keeping a starting spot with his teammate possessing some real talent.
"The way Niko [Matawalu] takes opportunities around the ruck, things like that, his running lines, there are definitely things I learn from him and there are things that he does that I know I can't do," he added.
"It's just how it goes. He has a bit of brilliance there that not everyone can do. There are things I learn off him but I'd like to think there are things that he learns off me. I learn off all guys in different positions."
