The match ended in heartbreak for the tourists, who were sunk by a last-gasp Morne Steyn penalty, but it was the first time an all-Welsh front row had been selected for the Lions since 1955.
Five years on and the trio has been reunited in the GUINNESS PRO12 by new Cardiff Blues boss Mark Hammett, following Jones' switch from Ospreys this summer.
At the centre of it is Rees, club captain and - in terms of Celtic League experience - the veteran of the trio.
As well as racking up 61 Wales caps and entering his 14th season with Cardiff Blues, the 33-year-old was an important member of that 2009 Lions tour.
And he only lines up for this GUINNESS PRO12 campaign after recovering from a testicular cancer diagnosis as recently as last season.
Rees is yet to line up alongside Jenkins and Jones in the competition, with the former held back by a calf injury, but it is only a matter of time.
