With five wins from six league games so far, last year's GUINNESS PRO12 finalists are second only to the unbeaten Ospreys.
Those five wins included avenging defeat to Leinster in last season's final and racking up 33 points in Wales on consecutive weekends.
However, Townsend admits Saturday's European triumph will be tough to top, after Sean Maitland, Tommy Seymour, Niko Matawalu and Mark Bennett (twice) crossed over at Scotstoun.
"This season, it's the most complete performance," he said.
"In a game that two very good teams are up against each other, playing attacking rugby, there will be some errors but we're delighted with the performance of the team.
"There was a period in the middle of the second half where we kicked away possession, maybe thinking subconsciously that we could defend the lead, but after that we attacked, so that was great to see."
And Townsend's strength in depth is perhaps best demonstrated at scrum-half where man-of-the-match Henry Pyrgos was replaced by Matawalu, only for the Fijian to make an instant impact.
"Niko's so keen to play," added the head coach. "Henry was rightly awarded man of the match - he had a fantastic game and, to have someone like Niko who has that energy when maybe the game breaks up, we know how good our scrum-halves are, and they're both playing well."
