With just one win from their opening six GUINNESS PRO12 games, Cardiff Blues entered the European break tenth in the table and struggling for momentum.
However, a 37-14 victory at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park blew away some of the cobwebs on Saturday, as Rhys Patchell, Lloyd Williams, Warburton, Richard Smith and Josh Turnbull each crossed over.
After one more European weekend, the Blues will return to GUINNESS PRO12 action next month against Munster and Hammett admitted they will miss Warburton when he departs for international duty.
"I thought Sam had his strongest game," the Kiwi coach told Wales Online. "I just thought he ramped up the intensity level physically and in the tackle.
"I think he is growing and has continued to improve in his last few games. He is in a very good spot. It's fantastic. He has given us some good leadership.
"It was great to get a win at home. That was important. I am happy for the players. It's not about me.
"It's a long-term plan. One win doesn't mean we are on track, but I am stoked for the lads because they are putting it in, they are working hard."
