Shingler started at fly-half for Wayne Pivac's outfit on Saturday as they overturned a half-time deficit to beat Zebre 28-13.
The 23-year-old amassed 23 points off the kicking tee for the Welsh region and after spending the first six rounds of the season playing understudy to Rhys Priestland, Shingler admitted he was delighted to take his chance.
"It is all about patience, you have just got to wait for your opportunity and take it when it comes," he told the South Wales Evening Post.
"It can be tough, but I was pleased with my kicking performance and hopefully I can keep knocking on the door for more games.
"Wayne has stuck to his guns for a while in terms of his starting team, but I thought a few boys came in and I think we did ourselves justice.
"At half-time we felt like we had the upper hand having played into a slight breeze. We just wanted to put pressure on them and I thought we stuck to our guns and saw it out.
"Confidence is building in the squad, especially with Byron's defence; I think we have found a working formula. We have put a lot of work into it."
