While defeat represents a setback for Zebre in their attempt to overhaul Benetton Treviso to qualify for Europe's top tier, Bergamasco believes the club possesses the leaders required to continue their development.
And the 36-year-old also paid tribute to the Italian fans as he now turns his attentions towards his final ever club game against Cardiff Blues next weekend.
"We did not want to end up in this way, we wanted to do something else instead but we did not succeed," he said.
"Perhaps we wanted to play too much and too much desire to do so in all parts of the field put us in trouble.
"The crowd repays me for all the efforts and difficulties, but also many joys and also the work of this team for three years working hard to compete with veteran teams in this league.
"Often we go close, we've lost several matches by very little and this is the picture of the closeness between Zebre representing the Italian movement, and the other European teams, we're missing little to win home games.
"The boys have always said that the captain has clear tasks and responsibilities, but on the rugby field there is a captain but fifteen leaders. Everyone is a leader himself.
"The captain is important, but when you play rugby and we have decisions to make everyone a leader himself. Rugby is the symbol of teamwork, but the team is made ??up of fifteen individuals."
