His grandfather Randall graced the Scarlets' former home, Stradey Park, for Llanelli in his youth, and it was during a family visit to West Wales earlier this year that Evans' dream switch was sealed.
Australian-born Evans had previously played for Newcastle and NSW Country, and spent a summer with Melbourne Rebels.
And with pre-season preparations now well underway for the new GUINNESS PRO12 season, he is relishing the opportunity to prove his mettle at Parc y Scarlets.
"It's been awesome, the coaches and boys have all been great and I feel as if I have been here a lot longer than a month," he told the South Wales Evening Post.
"It is also great to have been staying with my grandparents in Pontyberem. I am moving in with some of the boys in Llanelli this weekend, but I don't think my grandparents want me to move out!
"When I came over to visit my grandmother, I asked my agent if he could sort out a couple of meetings and maybe a trial or two, the Scarlets said yes and I came in.
"So it all happened very fast, but I had a great feeling about the place from the first day I was here.
"Now I can't wait for the new challenge and to see how a professional club like the Scarlets operate through such a long season.
"The coaches have told me to keep my head down and train hard. I would love to play as many games as I can, but my aim is to get better, compete against myself and improve as a player.
"My grandparents have been keeping me in Scarlets jerseys since I was about three so this is an exciting time for me."
