Yet, rather than encounter a squad professing to know it all after amassing 63 league tries last season, former prop McFarland says they have been receptive to his work so far.
"The main focus has been on physical preparation as well as skills," he told Glasgow Warriors TV.
"I've introduced a few new things such as the language I use in terms of forward play, but I'm working from an extremely good base and will try and bring in my ideas and blend them in with all the good stuff that's been done already.
"The nature of the players at the Warriors and the culture here is one of learning and trying to get the best out of themselves.
"Personal growth is a massive part of this organisation; not just for the players, but me as well. I want to develop."
