That pattern is likely to continue in the opening weeks of the new GUINNESS PRO12 season, with several of Scarlets' big hitters away on international duty.
And, rather than spread his wisdom in the dressing room, King intends to do his talking on the pitch.
"I'm not really one for giving my opinion - I'd rather help out on the field when it matters," King told Scarlets' official website.
"With the senior guys gone there's only a few of us who've been around and we're trying to help the young guys come out of their shells.
"I feel like a granddad out there. They're youthful and enthusiastic and hopefully it rubs off on me.
"I don't want to let them down. I don't want to let any of my team-mates down.
"It's about keeping in as good a condition as I can and as long as I keep offering something, I'm really happy to play."
