Engelbrecht has been plying his trade in Japan, but is now relishing his new challenge.
"It's going to be something completely different up in the UK, a different style and I'm excited to see how I adapt up there with the Ospreys," he said.
"To be part of something new in what looks like a great environment with a good club is a pretty special challenge for me.
"I love running with the ball, I love attacking rugby. I understand that can be a bit difficult up in the north at times, with the cold and the rain, but I'm excited about seeing how I can fit into the team and help them achieve their goals for the rest of the season.
"I've been talking to the coaches, getting to know the game plan and the style of play, and I want to do as much as I can for the team within that.
"I've enjoyed my time in Japan, on and off the field, and when you are a rugby player it's good to take new challenges. That's what I'm looking forward to with the Ospreys."
Ospreys are seventh in the GUINNESS PRO12 table after 12 matches. They finished third last term.
