But they could only manage a 20-20 draw, Dan Evans crossing late on and Sam Davies holding his nerve with the conversion to peg the Warriors back.
And although he watched his side leave it late to earn the draw, Gibbes couldn't help but think that it could have been so much more at the Liberty Stadium.
"There were plenty of opportunities to win that game. We are disappointed we let those go, so it's two points lost, but we'll keep moving forward," Gibbes told the South Wales Evening Post.
"I thought there was some outstanding rugby and a lot to be encouraged about. But even in the last bit there were still errors, so we just have to eliminate those if we can.
"But there's definitely some exciting rugby players coming through.
"We gave them a start and there were critical moments when we had them in their 22 and we lost line-outs, giving them an easy ride.
"That's going to happen when you have young guys. That doesn't make it good enough or acceptable, but it's reality."
