They joined forces in age-grade rugby at the Scarlets before starring in the GUINNESS PRO12 together, and Evans believes Lee deserves his time on the international stage.
"He has worked hard and he is very strong," Evans told the South Wales Evening Post.
"He tells me he used to be chucking steel around with all his uncles and stuff, he has been really strong since he was a young kid.
"He has worked hard and has a good technique."
While Lee will be in the Wales No.3 jersey against England on Saturday at Twickenham, Evans will be wearing a No.1 on his back.
Evans has taken the place of Gethin Jenkins, Wales' most-capped international, but the loosehead is delighted to have the experience of the veteran and Ospreys' Paul James to call on for the clash.
"It is awesome to be starting but it is good to have them in the squad as well," he added.
"They bring so much experience and knowledge and to be fair they both have been class in helping me in certain parts of the game."
