Fresh from an away win and home loss to French outfit Toulouse in the Heineken Cup, Lam's troops defeated Newport Gwent Dragons 14-11 to leapfrog Zebre into 11th place.
However that didn't look like being the case with the Dragons leading 11-6 prior to Fionn Carr's 75th-minute try and Dan Parks' last-gasp drop goal.
That turn around saw Connacht claim their second RaboDirect PRO12 win of the season and, now trailing Treviso in tenth by three points, Lam wants them to move onwards and upwards.
"We'd talked about these three weeks, we wanted to carry on the momentum from Toulouse. I think in that Toulousegame we got ahead and then showed character to get the win," Lam told the Score.
"This week there were just minutes to go, but to be down by five and show character and guts to get down that end and get the points we needed was massive.
"It just all adds to the belief and trust in the team and we achieved the first objective of getting off the bottom of the table. Now we want to continue to build on that."
