But the RaboDirect PRO12 is a competition that couldn't have gone better for the 23-year-old this season, having earned his international call-up off the back of some exhilarating performances in an Edinburgh jersey.
Fife's try-scoring spree in the RaboDirect PRO12 - four scores in four games - was sparked by an effort against Ulster last November, though Edinburgh were on the end of a 41-17 defeat.
But with UIster travelling to Murrayfield this time round, Fife is desperate to make amends for the Wales clash and propel his side to a top-half finish.
"I was never told like some of the lads to take a break so it was straight into training on Monday for this Ulster match," Fife told the Edinburgh Evening News.
"I was dying to get in and throw a ball about and put things right. Immediately after the game in Cardiff it was dark but having had a bit of time to myself, it is now important to look ahead to the final eight games of the season with Edinburgh.
"In some ways that (Ulster) match was where it started to go right for me. However, we lost quite heavily so Ulster remain one of the few teams in the league I have yet to get a win against.
"In that respect we owe them one and even more so because the focus, more than ever, is to finish in the top six."
