Before their defeat to Scarlets on the final day of the regular season, the Blues had won four in a row in the league for the first time all season.
And Rees, who was diagnosed with testicular cancer in November of last year but returned to action in March, has been at the forefront of their late season revival.
And the hooker has been rewarded by Wales as he has been appointed captain of the Possibles team in their trial match against a Probables XV scheduled for the end of this month.
And McBryde, who will coach the Possibles, insists Rees is more than deserving of his recall to the international arena with a tour to South Africa coming up next month.
"It's a chance to see players go head to head for the jersey and it should be a great contest," he said.
"It's great to have Matthew back in the set-up. It's no coincidence his return has resulted in an upturn in form for the Blues.
"He brings great leadership qualities and after the year he has had its great to see him playing so well."
