The Blues lined up against fellow PRO12 sides Newport Gwent Dragons, Ospreys and Scarlets during the weekend's opening Premiership Rugby 7s fixtures.
Cardiff found themselves on top of the pile and, along with Newport Gwent Dragons, booked their place at the Series Finals at Twickenham Stoop on August 8.
It is the first time the Welsh regions have taken part in the competition and Smith thinks the club's young guns now have a golden opportunity to shine.
"Tournaments like this are great opportunities for the younger boys to get a run out and show what they can do," Smith said.
"Some of these boys had never played in the senior Blues jersey before and they really put their hands up.
"The coaches are now going to have some really tough decisions to make for the finals and throughout the season and I'm just glad I'm not having to make them.
"There will be a full house at the Stoop and it will be a great experience for all the boys but in particular the younger players.
"I think the more exposure they have to big crowds and playing in the jersey then when it comes to big games you know you've been there and done it and can perform at your best."
