The New Zealand-born No.10 kicked 14 points and set up captain Sergio Parisse for a vital try as Italy overhauled a seven-point deficit at half time to secure a 24-13 triumph over Samoa.
The 28-year-old has made a similar impact for Zebre in the GUINNESS PRO12 this season, guiding his club to the only win of their campaign with a 13-6 victory against Ulster in round four.
And Brunel believes Haimona's skills perfectly complement those of his Zebre teammate Luciano Orquera, crucially providing Italy with two dynamic options for the No.10 jersey.
"Personally, I'm very satisfied with Haimona," said Brunel. "Two years ago he was playing in Piacenza, now he's playing with Zebre and the national team.
"The first half we seemed a little confused, we couldn't keep possession and we lacked organisation, but the boys had faith in themselves and Kelly proved what a top quality player he is.
"He helped us turn the game around and took a lot of individual initiative. He set up Sergio Parisse's try with a textbook move that is not so easy to execute.
"Haimona is also important for the squad because of similarities with Orquera. It will give us more choice and possibilities in the fly-half role and that is fundamental for our future chances."
