He has been an important player for them this time around, turning out 12 times in the competition already, and eager to leave on a high before joining Ospreys in the summer.
However, the 29-year-old admits he would love to see Zebre - and their fellow Italian outfit Benetton Treviso - prosper in his absence.
The two sides sit 12th and 11th respectively in the GUINNESS PRO12 table, with just six wins between them through 18 rounds, but Leonard insists that is not for a lack of talent in Italy.
"I hope the two sides climb the league," he told Wales Online. "I think the PRO12 and European rugby need Italy to be stronger.
"They lack depth so it's hard for them to grow. They have some fantastic individual players. They just need a little bit more specific coaching and you'll see them grow.
"They have great players but maybe they are not rugby smart. They just need a bit more rugby nous and I think they'll grow."
