This season has seen the arrival Nick Scott further dent his chances of forcing his way into the starting XV.
However, Brew has been keeping himself busy with the Barbarians and Newport in the Principality Premiership, and he says he's ready to stake his claim.
"I had a good run-out with the Barbarians and want to help Newport as best I can," Brew told the South Wales Argus.
"The Premiership is a good standard and unlike pre-season there is more pressure because you don't want to make mistakes that cost the team.
"It's good to go down to Newport to try and implement the things that I have been working on with the Dragons in the week and to try and help them get some wins.
"I am trying to blow away the cobwebs and keep the legs ticking over - you can train as much as you like but proper games are what any player wants. I hope to keep pressing for a Dragons place."
