Helu will also face the mighty All Blacks, as well as Argentina and Namibia, in the pool stages, but he admits he has been in regular contact with his new teammates back in Edinburgh after getting on well in pre-season.
And after starting the GUINNESS PRO12 campaign with victories against Leinster and Treviso, Helu insists the side are set for great things this season.
"To beat Leinster in the first match with a number of guys away with Scotland and myself with Tonga shows that we have good strength in depth at the club," he told the Edinburgh Evening News.
"The young players really impressed me when I was there for the pre-season training, and they have shown that they can come in and perform at the top level.
"To back up the Leinster victory with another over in Italy was important, and I'm sure the guys will be enjoying a few days off now before they resume league matches early in October.
"For now my concentration is fully with Tonga, but when I do get back to Edinburgh in a few weeks' time I am looking forward to making my mark for the club.
"Alan Solomons seems a really good coach to work for, a guy who can really motivate the squad and push us on."
