The late implosion meant that Edinburgh not only lost but also failed to pick up a losing bonus point, one which would have seen them advance to the quarter-finals in place of London Irish.
But Edinburgh don't have to wait long to set the record straight and that is exactly what Hardie is eager to do this Saturday as they travel to BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park to take on the Blues in front of the Sky Sports cameras.
"We are usually good at closing out games, that is usually one of our strengths," Hardie told the Edinburgh Evening News.
"It is disappointing but we are going to have to go back and have a look at the game and really pick what went wrong and put it right for the PRO12.
"You look to the bright side, it is in the past and now we look through the tape, see where we went wrong and see where we can improve.
"There are no excuses. I thought we had enough to win but we didn't; we have to take our lessons."
