That victory, coupled with a 14-11 triumph the following week, helped Edinburgh retain the 1872 Cup, and now New Zealand-born Hardie is turning his attentions to sampling the international delights BT Murrayfield has to offer.
Scotland host England there on Saturday and Hardie, whose five Scotland caps have all come away from BT Murrayfield, is champing at the bit after being handed the No.7 jersey.
"It doesn't get much bigger than the Calcutta Cup," Hardie told Edinburgh Evening News. "I'll be really ecstatic and it will be awesome for the team to get off to a good start.
"I think it is going to be really special. I have heard so much about the atmosphere when there are a lot of Scots in the stands. It will be a special moment.
"It was very early in the morning there [New Zealand], so I used to watch it [Calcutta Cup] on a Sunday morning with dad.
"I can remember Murrayfield was packed and you could get a sense of how much rivalry there was between the two teams."
