The result was doubly disappointing for Wilson and co as it now means Ulster are fourth in the table, with Scarlets having leapfrogged them into third spot.
But with seven regular season games remaining, No.8 Wilson is not about to hit the panic button.
"It was a bit like Trimby's [Andrew Trimble] 200th appearance, we didn't quite get the performance," Wilson told the News Letter, referencing Ulster's loss to Munster at the start of January. "It was disappointing and is really a wake-up call for us.
"It has probably been coming in the last few weeks, we haven't been performing well but we still have plenty of time to put it right.
"Looking back this is what we maybe needed, a good kick up the backside. We're disappointed but we've been told to have a good look at the video and when we get back in we'll take ownership.
"We weren't clinical enough in the opposition 22. We had plenty of opportunities in there and this season generally we have been quite good in there.
"But credit to the Scarlets they defended well but we just couldn't put them away and that is something that we will definitely be working on."
