However as they prepare to travel to Ospreys for their opening game of the new league season, Guidi believes there are plenty of positives to be taken from the encounter, in particular young back row Maxime Mbandà, who made his international debut for Italy in the summer.
He said: "I'm disappointed with the final result: in this pre-season we have chosen two tough games to really test our young players who impressed - the second row and Mbandà who is establishing himself at this level.
"The important thing is to see the frustration of the players at the end of the game for a game that we could have won.
"In the first half when we had at least three good chances, while we conceded one easy try to the Irish.
"In the second half, playing against the wind, we were not attentive and were unable to score by taking a tap penalty when we could have got a penalty try.
"We still saw a good attitude from the squad which is pleasing. In order to judge this game we have to take into account the difficult week we've had: for that reason in the final analysis we've taken a step forward."
