The 25-year-old notched one try and was joined on the scoresheet by Sean Maitland, Niko Matawalu, Jackson, Mark Bennett, Stuart Hogg and John Barclayas the Warriors reclaimed top spot in the league.
And Townsend believes a premeditated meeting with his star was the catalyst for a brilliant all-round showing.
"It was a complete performance from Ruaridh," Townsend told the Edinburgh Evening Times. "I was delighted for him in the reaction he got from the crowd, but we had a chat in the afternoon before the game and he was really receptive.
"He tackled well, his goal-kicking was 100 per cent and he scored a great try and went for his line breaks."
And ahead of the trip to Scarlets next weekend, Townsend revealed more good news, with the return of Chris Fusaro and Mike Cusack.
He added: "We are hoping to have Chris Fusaro and Mike Cusack back at club level this weekend and they could then be available for the trip to Scarlets. It would be fantastic to get another two back at this stage."
