The 26-year-old has been forced to miss the Six Nations with Wales, having spent most of their 2012 Grand Slam campaign on the sidelines after being banned.
But the protective boot that Bradley Davies had been wearing has now been removed, and despite being hopeful of seeing his second row back in action this term his boss urged caution.
"He may be back for the last couple of games of the season, or he may not," said the Blues director of rugby Phil Davies.
"He has come out of his boot, but it's a couple of months' time that we are expecting him to potentially be back.
"It may be the last couple of the games of the season, if that. He is progressing well and he is doing his rehab very diligently."
