They were also looking to exact some revenge after they fell to a 23-12 loss at Murrayfield against the same opposition the week previous,
But they put the record straight at Kingsholm as Ben Atiga's try plus 11 points from the boot of Jack Cuthbert edged them to a 16-10 win, in turn keeping alive their own hopes of progressing in the competition.
And with a home game against Leinster before back-to-back games against Glasgow Warriors to come in the RaboDirect PRO12, Solomons admits it was the perfect tonic.
"I think we set the record straight with that performance out there. It was a performance of character and heart," he said.
"We were determined to change things after losing the previous weekend and we're pleased to at least be back in the frame in the Pool. We will just take every game as it comes now.
"We have three massive domestic games against Leinster and Glasgow Warriors home and away to come before we get back into Europe.
"Defensively we were superb and I thought everybody played well. There wasn't anyone who didn't give of themselves."
