Capped three times for his country, he has been given the nod to play against Ireland on Sunday ahead of established Scotland international and Edinburgh star Richie Gray, who has to settle for a place on the bench.
And while concentrating on putting in a performance this weekend Swinson, who signed a new three-year contract with the Warriors on Tuesday, knows he cannot afford to rest on his laurels with so many players pushing for their chance.
"Edinburgh and Glasgow second rows have been playing really well this season so we have good competition and there are Glasgow players who are not even in the Scotland squad," Swinson told the Scotsman.
"But we've got friendly competition between all of us and we're all Test-level players and we're all really good players so the decision as to who they start, who goes on the bench, who doesn't play, is a tough job."
