A hat-trick against Northampton as Munster moved into the last eight of the European Cup in January 2012 highlighted his international. And two days after he was called into the Irish Wolfhounds squad to face England Saxons as he edged closer to a full international call-up.
Finishing the 2011-12 RaboDirect PRO12 season with eight tries from 14 starts, he made his international debut against New Zealand in Auckland before making two appearances during Ireland's autumn international campaign.
A foot injury against England last year had threatened to rule him out of the British & Irish Lions' tour but he was an injury replacement and he made quite the impact on and off the field.
This season, injuries hampered the early part of his campaign but he's back and firing on all cylinders and in his last two matches since his comeback, he's scored two tries, taking his all-time RaboDirect PRO12 tally to 15.
