Speaking only last week about his fresh outlook John said: "There's a great group of young players in here at the moment. A number of the senior players are only 26 or 27 years old and I feel like I've had a new lease of life with all these youngsters coming through!"
One-club players are a rarity in this day and age and John has given his career to Llanelli and Scarlets and is still going strong!
As a mark of respect for his commitment and dedication to the Scarlets, John has been awarded a Benefit Season which kicked off with a dinner last Saturday, hosted by former Scarlet Rupert Moon.
Guest speaker Rob Jones - former British & Irish Lion, and comedian Colin Price entertained the guests at the Quinnell Lounge, Parc y Scarlets, and were treated to a star-studded auction which included a signed Wales shirt (current squad), Leon Brittan's boots (signed), Phil John's 250th appearance players shirt (signed), a villa in Lanzarote for a week for four, a signed Glamorgan shirt, Michael van Girwan's champion shirt.
John Maclean, Chairman of Phil John's Benefit Season said: "It is with great pleasure that I have taken the role of Chairman on Phil's Benefit Season committee. This year is going to be special in so many ways and the support thus far has been amazing."
Mark Burch, Secretary of Phil John's Benefit Season added: "The inaugural dinner was a great evening and a fantastic opener to Phil's Benefit Season. It's great to see such support for Phil and his chosen charities LATCH and the John Hartson Foundation Grab Cancer By The Balls. We're looking forward to the rest of the year!"
