Edinburgh's last three away games have resulted in three losing bonus points, the latest coming against Benetton Treviso on Saturday as the Italians clinched their first RaboDirect PRO12 win since December.
It followed defeats on the road to Connacht and Scarlets, which has seen the Scottish outfit slip down the table - and Strauss views them as three opportunities missed.
But according to the 30-year-old, solving their away day troubles is just a matter of sticking to the basics.
"As a team we are good enough to have won all of those games and it's unfortunate that we didn't manage to do that, but the positive for this is that we know this is a process," he told the club website.
"We can look at it as three bonus points on the road, but ultimately we are capable of winning those games.
"We are definitely building towards something. We know what our end goal is and we are taking small steps towards reaching that goal.
"If we stick to what we are supposed to, we will start winning those games in the not too distant future."
